GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Two teenage girls were shot and a third was slashed in a burst of violence between two rival groups of teenagers Sunday night in Greenwich Village, just blocks from the Stonewall Inn, as Pride festivities were winding down.

Police say shots were fired during a dispute at 3 Sheridan Square, home to a Gristedes supermarket, just after 10 p.m.

Video taken by a witness shows a large number of teenagers involved in some sort of melee. NYPD officials say it was between two rival groups who knew each other.

Investigators say video shows that out of the two smaller rival groups, a 16-year-old girl emerges, determined to get a specific man. Footage shows her weave through the crowd, pull a 9 mm pistol, and then within inches from the person's head, fires off two shots.

The 16-year-old girl's bullets misses the target, but instead, strikes a 17-year-old girl, an innocent bystander, in her left thigh.

"By some miracle that male is not shot, however those rounds traveled down range and strike our 17-year-old victim in her left thigh. That bullet travels through her left thigh and lodges in her right thigh," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. "This victim is a female 17-years-old visiting from New Jersey. She had no connection to the shooter, and she had no connection to the previous fight that was taking place. She was in New York City to celebrate the Pride parade and was a total innocent bystander."

The shooter then flees with her original group of friends. Police say a male in her group then turned and fired four shots into the crowd as he was running, but instead, unintentionally hit the 16-year-old in her head from about 10 feet away. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is now stable.

Sometime after the shooting, a 17-year-old-girl walked into Bellevue Hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen. She is in stable condition.

Police say video shows she was with the shooter group at the scene, but say she is not cooperating with the investigation. It's unclear if her injuries are connected to the shooting.

The accomplice, described as wearing a black ski mask, fled the scene westbound toward Sheridan Square and has yet to be found.

As for the 16-year-old shooter, police say she has had a few prior run ins with officers. She has two prior arrests for robbery.

No arrests have been made in this shooting, but a gun was recovered at the scene, which is believed to belong to the 16-year-old.

Mayor Eric Adams posted a statement on X saying he was saddened to learn of the shooting.

"During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating. We're praying for the speedy recovery of the victims in tonight's shooting. The NYPD will work quickly and tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice," Adams said on X.
