Chantee Lans reports on the deadly crash in Bethpage.

BETHPAGE, Long Island (WABC) -- Authorities in Nassau County are investigating after three young men were killed when their SUV hit a tree and burst into flames on Long Island.

The group was traveling on Stymus Avenue in Bethpage around 1 a.m. Sunday when the driver of an SUV ran off the road and crashed.

The Bethpage Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

All three friends were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the men were young and in their early 20s.

Friends say they went to Plainedge High School and one of them was a football wide receiver.

A makeshift memorial at the crash site grew on Monday as many came to pay their respects and grieve in disbelief.

It's not clear where the men were heading and what may have caused the crash, but investigators are working to figure it out.
